A couple of months ago I wrote about how we gave a personality to Around ME. We provide initial introductory flow when you use Around ME first time, which guides you through basic functionalities and presenting Amy, personalization of Around ME chatbot. After that initial contact, each time you engage you will experience different scenarios based on time of the day. What that basically means is that Amy will provide different experience if you ping her in morning, around the day or at night.

Around ME was built to provide a cool places nearby, specifically, cafes, restaurants and bars. Having those 3 categories of places in mind and analyzing behavior and usage patterns of our current users, we found out that users mostly look for a cafes or coffee place in the morning, restaurants for lunch and bars at the night.

We tried to design a solution to solve 2 aspects of user needs:

  1. Make choices for specific time of the day more accessible.
  2. Engage in more fun and witty way for these specific scenarios.

I will show on examples for each case:

Morning

If you already talked with Amy and she knows about you, if you send Yo in morning hours she will offer you Best cafes as first option, because, most of people are interested in coffee in the morning.

Day

Yo in lunch time will offer Best Restaurants as first option.

Night

And lastly, if send Yo in the evening Bars will be offered.

As you can see, with each scenario Amy gives a bit of her personality through messages. Through some user interviews we found out that users found this scenarios very fun and more efficient in chat app usage.
