Foxsy; personal matchmaking assistant

With CEO and Founder, Jin Tanaka

What is Foxsy?
Foxsy is your personal matchmaking assistant.
As Foxsy is a Chatbot, it works on messenger apps. The service is currently only available on Facebook messenger with plans to expand to other messenger platforms.

What are the problems with current dating apps?
Since Tinder’s creation now roughly 80% of Americans have been recorded as using the service with users ranging from 18 to 40 years old. Currently I.A.C. is the leading company within the matchmaking and dating industry. Tinder provides a very simple and a unique interface for users. As I am a user, I would say that it is fun to swipe for as a way to kill time. Despite this, I still have doubts as to whether Tinder is a successful way to meet up with people or not.

How about dating with a real person?
As part of Foxsy development, we conducted market research on over 100 female Tinder users.

The Foxsy team was curious as to what the reason for this might be and so we conducted interviews with a hundred women. (Thank you for helping to do it. Love and hug from all Foxsy members.)

According to the responses collected, only one out of every one thousand swipes leads to a real date. From this success rate we can conclude that Tinder is an ineffective method of securing an actual date. It means it is very difficult to meet up through just swiping. Or swiping can’t bring you to a right person and match.
To put it simply, current dating apps share one common issue: there is a divide in expectations between men and women using the apps. This problem manifests most commonly in user profiles and conversations on the applications.

How to be candidate to match?
Firstly, men on average provide less information in their profiles than women. This makes it difficult for female users to match with them, as there isn’t enough meaningful information to even form a first impression.

For women to feel compelled to match with men, they need a lot more information at this stage, such as appearance and character information. For instance, Women tend to check at least 5–6 pictures to get an idea of a man’s appearance and lifestyle. These pictures could be face, upper body, business scene, some kind of activity or hobby, and a photo with friends or a pet. In addition to this, they tend to check men’s profile descriptions more thoroughly to get know and to imagine more of their character and personality. On the other hand, regarding user behaviour, male users don’t tend to know that they should write on their profile, and often don’t want to put in effort to make their profile more outstanding.

What happens after matching?
This is the second crucial point for users. How should people approach one another after matching? As we heard from female users, there three types of messages that women receive from men.

"no effort to approach "

1. “Hi” or “hey” (just simple bow)

2. “Are you free tonight?” (Guys try to make an appointment to meet up)

3. “Where are you from?” (Very simple and generic question)

Each, messages we tested to women. Here is the response rate.

"no proper conversation"

1. 4%

2. 4%

3. 15%

In short, none of these messages will start a proper conversation.

What women like to see in a first message is whether their conversation partner is interesting or has a sense of humor. They like to picture whether they would have a fun time or not if they chose to meet up in person.

These two types of problems,

The Foxsy team is working to ensure more meaningful connections for female users. How we solve these problems is by offering support when making a profile and by finding matches with a common interest or hobby.

Here’s our demo.

Fox like Hachi (Famous Japanese dog ) will pop-up. Then, users just need to click the button on the bottom.

Having a chat with Foxsy makes it easy to create a well-rounded and informative profile in minutes. The more the user chats with Foxsy, the more Foxsy understands who you are and what your preferences are. Foxsy is designed to function as a friend who can introduce you to someone who will match your likes and dislikes.

3. Provide a conversation topic

According to your information, Foxsy can suggest someone who might match your interests. When you message a match, if there is a common interest you share Foxsy would suggest what you can talk to them about. We, the Foxsy team, believe that making meaningful connections is very important for everyone. Up until this point meeting someone you really click with might have been based on your personal connections like friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances. Why don’t we have unlimited human connections at our fingertips?
